July 4-7 Writing-On-Stone, Milk River

Please note the date has changed.

Due to a double booking our dates have been changed to July 4-7, a day earlier, arriving anytime Thursday afternoon or evening at the Writing-On-Stone rodeo grounds, leaving Sunday around noon as they have another group arriving in that afternoon.  Les O’Hara will guide us on 5-6 hour rides Friday and Saturday.  They have a lovely camping area beside the river and the outdoor rodeo arena.

There are enough overnight pens for everyone, assuming that bigger pens are used for 2 or more horses.  Bring your own feed and water buckets.  Shoes on horses are not required.  There is a river crossing at the beginning of both day rides.  Outhouse also on site.  At the visitor center and other campground nearby there is also a convenience store, gift shop, displays and coin showers (a couple minute drive away but too far to walk).

Lisa would like to do a potluck dinner Friday night.  Lisa also talked to the visitor center and we could book a private walking “ROCK ART” tour with a minimum of 12 people Sunday morning from 9-11am before we leave.  This area has restricted access so its the only way to see it, and they agreed to bus us back to rodeo arena after (tour starts right beside it).  Cost is $20/person.  The $40 covers the camping fee and an honorarium for Les.  The $20 for tour would be an additional charge when you get there.  If we don’t have more than 12 interested we could still join the public tour at 10am and can book it mid May.

Deposit of $40 must be paid to ATRA by April 18.

This ride took place 2019.
